27 May – 3 June 2025
Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week. This year’s theme, ‘Bridging Now to Next’, calls on all Australians to “step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us”. It reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
For us, this means staying connected to our ancestors and the learnings of the past and working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people to create meaningful change. And it means working to remove the barriers that stand in their way. The challenges they face are systemic, but systems can change.
Our work as a society is to create a world where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people are uplifted, not held back. We know that they are strong, capable and destined to thrive. It is our responsibility and our privilege to build the bridges that will allow them, alongside all other children and young people, to walk into a future of boundless opportunities.
“Our children and young people are not just part of what comes next. They are already forging new paths – carrying their ancestral knowledge, their beliefs and their dreams into a world that could still rise up to meet them” – Lil Gordon, National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People.
