The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy
6–13 July 2025
This NAIDOC Week celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young First Nations leaders, the vision of their communities, and the legacies of their ancestors.
For over 60,000 years, First Nations peoples have nurtured generations of children through deep connections to community, culture and Country. Today, as children and young people make up more than half of the First Nations population, passing down these traditional ways of being, knowledge, and wisdom is vital to empowering them to lead and shape the future.
The strength of First Nations children and young people fills us with pride and hope. Self-determination runs fiercely through their deep and ancient legacy. It is their right to lead, to live with agency, and to grow up safe and strong in culture. Every day, we see them speaking up, caring for Country, asserting their rights, advocating for their communities, and building a future around justice and truth.
This NAIDOC Week, we commit to continuing the work of Elders, families and communities who have always fought alongside children and young people. That means listening to them, believing in them, removing barriers to asserting their rights and voices, and creating space for them to grow, make their own choices, and thrive.
We invite you to connect with community this NAIDOC Week by engaging in cultural celebrations, educational activities, and community events near you. For more information, visit www.naidoc.org.au.
