Children’s Week is a national event held annually around the fourth Wednesday in October, promoting awareness of children’s rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Led by the Children’s Week Council of Australia, the week encourages national participation and supports children to be seen, heard, and celebrated in every community.

This year’s theme is based on UNCRC Article 42: States Parties undertake to make the principles and provisions of the Convention widely known, by appropriate and active means, to adults and children alike.

Here at the National Commission for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People, this theme reminds us that when we value children, we uphold their human rights. When we uphold their rights, we create space for self-determination. When communities have self-determination, they find solutions that work for their kids. And when we apply those solutions, we build a safer and kinder world for everyone.
